Background

Edwin Watts Golf had a current website built on Microsoft’s ASP platform. The site was having stability issues and was not a solid enough code base for Edwin Watts Golf to continue to grow with. Being a product purchased by a wide audience, search engine placement was a critical factor in choosing a solution. Additionally, Edwin Watts Golf has several important business relationships, which it adds to, which needed to be supported on the web as well. Edwin Watts Golf was looking to find a vendor who could supply software, services, and managed hosting so they could have a single vendor provide the entire solution with no finger pointing.

Edwin Watts Golf choose Shared Vision Group to provide the software, services, and managed hosting for the solution. The solution is based on IBM’s WebSphere Commerce with customizations provided by Shared Vision Group.  The solution integrates product data directly from the legacy system. WebSphere commerce handles the catalog display and pricing, as well as cross selling and up selling special products.

Edwin Watts also has relationships with several affiliate programs. The most significant of which is the US Army and Air Force Exchange System (AAFES) – utilizing XML over HTTP using xCLB 3.0 messaging. This is real-time integration of users and orders using XML, and then POs using XML with the messaging sub-system. 

With the ability to manage search engine terms, meta-data, and the URL words, Edwin Watts Golf has been able to keep their key products high on the prominent search engines. This has helped with search engine placement, which translates directly into higher sales. With the catalog and order integration, Edwin Watts Golf is able to maximize their existing investments, while utilizing the Web to open up new avenues. Shared Vision Group continues to host the solution and build customizations to the system that keep the site current and fresh.
